Lopez currently stars as Judy Robles, a struggling single mother-of-five, in Unstoppable, a biopic directed by William Goldenberg about disabled wrestling champion Anthony Robles. The film, streaming on Prime Video starting January 16 after a limited theatrical release, has garnered a certified fresh 78% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

For her performance, Lopez will be honored with the Legend & Groundbreaker Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Impact Awards brunch on January 4. Reflecting on her acting process in a recent Guardian interview, Lopez said:

“As an actor, it’s not about doing an imitation. It’s about understanding emotionally what’s going on and bringing that through. I learned this during Selena when Edward James Olmos told me, ‘Take all of it in, get everything you can. Then throw it all away. Just do it. It’s in there.’”

Even Affleck, who executive produced Unstoppable, praised Lopez, telling ET on November 3, “Jennifer is spectacular.”

Upcoming Projects and Romantic Comedy Return

Lopez is set to star in a Netflix rom-com Office Romance, alongside Ted Lasso alum Brett Goldstein, who co-wrote the screenplay. She is also taking on three roles in Bill Condon’s upcoming Kiss of the Spider Woman remake, produced by Affleck.

The couple, who rekindled their romance in 2021 after originally splitting in 2004, faced turbulence in their marriage, with Lopez filing for divorce in August, coinciding with what would have been their second wedding anniversary. They are still working to sell their $68M marital mansion in Beverly Hills.
