I Risked Everything To Save A Trapped Biker On A Lonely Highway — Days Later, Leather-Clad Strangers Showed Up At My Apartment Door, And What They Did Changed My Mother’s And My Life Forever

Part 2 of 3

The man standing outside was enormous. Gray streaks ran through his beard, and countless tattoos covered his arms.

“You Colby Mercer?”

Colby nodded.

The stranger stepped inside.

“My name is Boone Callahan. The man you saved is my brother, Everett Sloan.”

Colby’s heart pounded.

“Is he all right?”

Boone glanced toward Colby’s bandaged arm.

“He’ll recover. But first, I’d like to see the injury you got trying to save him.”

Colby slowly rolled up his sleeve.

The room fell silent.

The burn was swollen and angry red.

Boone stared at it.

“Most grown men would have walked away,” he said quietly.

Before Colby could answer, Diane entered the apartment.

She froze instantly.

Then she stepped protectively in front of her son.

“You need to leave,” she said firmly.

Boone lowered his head respectfully.

“Ma’am, we’re not here to cause trouble. Your son saved a life, and we don’t forget things like that.”

He placed an envelope on the kitchen table.

“Use it however you need to.”

Without another word, the four men departed.

A Debt of Gratitude

Diane stared at the envelope for several moments before opening it.

Inside was enough money to pay several months of rent, repair her aging car, and fill their refrigerator.

She covered her face with her hands.

“I don’t know whether I should feel relieved or frightened,” she whispered.

Colby understood exactly what she meant.

Life had become so difficult that even unexpected kindness felt overwhelming.

From that day forward, strange things began happening.

His supervisor at work suddenly treated him with respect.

The boys who had once mocked him in school no longer bothered him.

One afternoon, several troublemakers stepped into his path outside a convenience store.

Then the sound of a motorcycle engine filled the street.

A rider wearing black leather appeared nearby.

He said nothing.

He simply waited.

The group immediately walked away.

Colby realized that the Iron Riders were quietly watching over him.

The realization was unsettling.

The Man Behind the Badge

Deputy Randall Pierce stopped Colby one chilly afternoon.

The patrol car rolled slowly beside him.

“Looks like you’ve made some interesting friends,” the deputy said.

“I don’t know them,” Colby replied.

The deputy smiled.

“That isn’t what people are saying.”

Colby remained silent.

The deputy leaned closer.

“Stay away from those men if you know what’s good for you.”

Weeks later, Pierce confronted him again near the apartment building.

This time, his tone was far colder.

He searched Colby’s pockets before producing a small plastic package.

Colby’s eyes widened.

“That’s not mine.”
