According to multiple royal commentators and biographers, the once-close siblings have been navigating a prolonged period of estrangement following Prince Harry’s decision to step away from official royal duties alongside his wife, Meghan Markle.

While the early days of Harry and Meghan’s relationship seemed positive — with Prince William reportedly welcoming Meghan warmly and even joking that he was glad to meet the woman who had made his brother smile again — concerns reportedly emerged as the couple’s engagement progressed rapidly.

Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, in their 2020 biography Finding Freedom, claimed that William advised his brother to take his time before proposing, encouraging Harry to “not rush” and “get to know this girl.” The phrasing reportedly upset Harry, who viewed it as patronizing, though sources later clarified William’s intent was rooted in concern rather than criticism.
