Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, is preparing for a new chapter in his life after confirming his engagement to Harriet Sperling, an NHS nurse.
The couple’s romance began last year and has now led to wedding plans, though no date has been set. The announcement, shared last week, said both families were “delighted” with the news. The King, Queen, and the Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed.
Could Princes William or Harry Play a Role?
Although details of the ceremony are yet to be revealed, royal watchers have been quick to speculate on what Peter’s big day might look like — and whether his famous cousins could take part.
Former royal butler Grant Harrold suggested that Prince William might be asked to serve as best man, noting Peter’s close bond with him. While Peter has also been close to Prince Harry, Harrold pointed out that Harry’s time away from the UK may have meant fewer recent interactions.
If neither cousin is chosen as best man, Harrold believes they could still be asked to serve as ushers. Despite tensions between Harry and the wider royal family since his 2020 departure from royal duties, Harrold said he is “certainly” expecting Harry to be invited.
Peter’s Previous Marriage
This will be Peter’s second marriage. He wed Autumn Kelly in 2008, and the couple had two daughters — Savannah, 14, and Isla, 13 — before separating in 2019. Their divorce was finalised in 2021.
Peter Phillips is the eldest grandson of the late Queen Elizabeth II and the nephew of King Charles III.
