Fans think Chelsea player snubbed Donald Trump during Club World Cup trophy ceremony

Fans are convinced that a Chelsea player appeared to ignore US President Donald Trump during the FIFA Club World Cup trophy ceremony.

Chelsea Crowned Club World Cup Champions

Chelsea clinched the restructured Club World Cup title on Sunday night, comfortably defeating Champions League winners and tournament favorites Paris Saint Germain at MetLife Stadium. The Blues secured a 3-0 victory, with Cole Palmer scoring twice and new recruit Joao Pedro adding a third.

Before facing PSG, Chelsea had already seen off LAFC, Flamengo, ES Tunis, Benfica, Palmeiras, and Fluminense, making their path to the final an impressive one.

Trump Joins Trophy Presentation

As part of the post-match celebrations, Trump, 79, stood alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino to present medals to the Chelsea players and later joined them as they lifted the final trophy of the 2024/25 season.

But one moment from the presentation quickly caught fans’ attention online.

Tyrique George Walks Past Trump

Social media footage showed Chelsea’s young talent Tyrique George walking past President Trump without shaking his hand after receiving his medal. The clip sparked speculation that the player had deliberately skipped the handshake.

However, it’s worth noting that Trump had his back turned at the time, seemingly reaching for the next medal. He did appear to say “Congratulations” toward George as he passed.

Mixed Fan Reactions Online

The moment stirred plenty of reactions on social media. One fan wrote: “Trump’s face when Tyrique George snubbed him of a handshake.” Another commented: “Whether he meant it or not, Tyrique George did not shake Donald Trump’s hand as Chelsea were receiving their medals.”

A third added: “I saw Tyrique George skip the Trump handshake lol,” while another user suggested: “Tyrique noticed he was looking the other way and took full advantage lmao.” One more observed: “Looks like he started extending his arm and moved on because Trump wasn’t looking.”

Coach Maresca Praises Team’s Triumph

Speaking after the final, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca praised his team’s performance and reflected on the significance of their victory.

“Being Club World Cup champions is something we have to be very proud of,” he said. “We are very happy. Especially for doing it against PSG. As I said before, I consider them the best team in the world with one of the best managers in the world, fantastic players. So it was a top achievement.”
