Donald Trump just broke a presidential world record for all the wrong reasons

Part 1 of 2

Donald Trump has been labeled historically unpopular, despite being elected as president by US voters just months earlier.

It’s clear that Trump has had quite an eventful 11 days since taking office on January 20.

When the results of the US election were revealed in November 2024, it was reported that Trump had won the ‘popular’ vote across America.

He made history by winning in areas typically favorable to Republicans, as well as in regions where Democrats usually have the advantage.

However, just months after the election, it appears that Trump’s popularity isn’t as high as initially suggested—and he has set a record for all the wrong reasons.

A new Gallup poll has revealed that the president’s early approval ratings are actually at their lowest point ever.

Megan Brenan, a senior editor who contributed to the research, explained: “At 47%, President Donald Trump’s initial job approval rating for his second term is similar to the inaugural 45% reading during his first term, once again placing him below all other elected presidents dating back to 1953.”

Breaking records, she added: “Trump remains the only elected president with sub-50% initial approval ratings, and his latest disapproval rating (48%) is three percentage points higher than in 2017.”

According to the study, John F. Kennedy was, and remains, the most popular modern president at the start of his term.

Next in line are Dwight Eisenhower (1953) and Barack Obama (2009), who each scored 68% – the next-highest approval ratings.
